Deep goes to depth of about 4 cm. Striking finger or hand against body part. Flatness: direct, indirect, may use percussion hammer, may use fist, but always strike other hand. Be slow to pick up the stethoscope. Have to press harder: listening, diaphragm catches high pitched sounds, bell catches low pitched sounds, characteristics of sounds, may need to close eyes. Need to learn to isolate sounds and hear subtle nuances.
