Document Summary

Hypothesis testing procedure used to evaluate mean differences between 2 or more groups. Independent variable that designates the groups being compared is called a factor. Individual conditions or values that make up a factor are called levels. Based on variance instead of sample means. Provides measure of difference between treatment conditions. Made up of: the differences caused by the treatment, the difference simply due to chance. Measures variability within each of the treatment groups. Provides measure of how much difference should be expected by chance: amount of difference that should be expected if the treatment had no effect, unexplained variability or error. Lots of different things can influence our memory of certain events. One possible factor: emotional valence of the stimuli. K=number of treatment conditions n= number of scores in each treatment. N= number of scores in the entire study. G=grand total-the sum of all scores in in the experiment. F rations are always positive: variance is always positive.
