Document Summary

The most popular/widely used seventh chord is the v. The tri-tone in this chord adds even more tension/pull to the tonic. It is also unique, because it is the only one that naturally occurs in mm form. All other seventh chords are naturally mm or mm. (as well as diminished) Find the root of the chord, which is the fifth scale degree. In a major key, stacking thirds on the fifth scale degree will give you a natural v7 chord. In a minor key, the 3rd of the chord must be raised a half step. All v7 chords will be in root position.
