When we love the earth, we are able to love ourselves more fully. Modern society - easy for people to forget that black people were first and foremost a earth was shared people of the land, farmers. Wonder and reverence for life - growing food to sustain life, growing flowers to please the soul - made a connection with the earth, on going and life affirming. Wendell berry - relationship between agriculture and human spiritual well being. Such work is unifying - brings us home from pride and despair. Struggling to make a living in the industrial north away from the agriculture. Altered the communal practices central to survival in the south.
