Guest speaker: dennis dimick of national geographic. Went to osu for agriculture but has a sophomore he got his first camera and it changed his life. Parents were fishery biologists and his dad started fish and wildlife at. Very outdoorsy childhood and misses it but the land he grew up on got overcome by urbanization, mainly 1-205. Worked as a staff photographer east oregonian. Did a piece on the role of wheat in oregon. 2 years as a picture editor in louisville. Started working for natgeo in 1980 asa picture editor. Became the environment editor and began deciding what they would write about (1998) Worked on pieces about disappearing habitats and endangered species. Loved getting to do stories about the pacific northwest, (geology of volcanoes and earthquakes) The salmon migration stops at grand cooli because there is no salmon ladder unlike bonneville dam.
