70"s: the period 1966-70 was pretty lean for sitcoms, old (and perhaps tired) shows like: Beverly hillbillies, the lucy show, gilligan"s island, green acres, the andy. Griffith show, and gomer pyle played in prime time. The only new show of note that debited in this period was the brady bunch (1969-74) featuring a couple with children from previous marriages. Norman lear: lear would turn out to be the single most successful sitcom producer of the decade, creating two hugely successful spin-offs from: Maude (1972-78) with beatrice arthur later of golden girls who played. He also produced other breakthrough sitcoms that focused on race: Sanford and sons (1972-77) starring comedian redd foxx.
