Etiology: it is a brain disorder, characterized by brain differences (reduced brain tissue in frontal and medial temporal lobes, occurs in individuals who are genetically prone to developing it. Development: similar to autism, parents look back and recognize they noticed signs of schizophrenia, periods of relapse and recovery, by ages 50-60, the brain is unable to produce the severe episodes, however life does not just normalize. Environment: environment triggers a vulnerability, in urban environments risk doubles (chronic stress, social drift: the tendency of schizophrenics to drift to a lower economic class. Expressed emotion: helicopter family smothering, over involved, correlates with more psychotic episodes.
