BCS 111 Lecture 4: Vision 1 - from cells to shapes

22 views2 pages

Document Summary

Warnowiid, one cell organism, basically an algae, made the rounds in scientific community (2-3 years ago), has weird feature, complex eye, (organism doesn t have underlying physiology of brain structure like us) Not quite sure how this occurred, and how it developed. One hypothesis; one organism was eaten, and the dna mixed with this warnowiid and developed this more complex eye structure. Take in info from senses ---> brain does a bunch of stuff and that causes predictions about our environment. Allows us to survive in the world. Seeking info is a basic human need. Visions are used to create predictions about the environment (ex prof closes eyes and tries to predict where he is in the environment; you can feel your body trying to seek input to know how to navigate environment) Thomas bayes - statistician, reverent, gave us the formalization of how we can take info and compute. Our prior observations of our world influences our current expectations.
