4 different types of eye in animal kingdom. Primitive eye can tell where light is coming from -> where predator is coming from. The smaller the hole, the more exact the location of light. Predator or fruit eater - less coverage, more accuracy. Color vision depends on the number of different color receptor types. Most animals are red/green colorblind - two color receptors. Snakes have pit organs that provide sensory information/infrared. Can tell sun"s position from dominant band of light. Gives animal"s cues about sun"s position in the sky. Different times of day, sun is in different positions. The sun"s position alters the position and direction of the dominant band of polarization. Some birds, fish, molluscs, and many arthropods can see polarization. Use it to make out shapes of objects. Pressure waves travelling through air or water. Important factor in determining whether or not an animal can hear a sound. Freq must be high because bugs are small.
