Focused on doing rather than talking (keep track of mood with diary) Based on belief that psychological disturbances are the result of unconscious conflicts, faulty thinking patterns, or self-defeating behaviors. Psychodynamic therapies are based on the idea that gaining insight into your unconscious conflicts is critical to resolving psychological problems. Psychoanalysis: a method of therapy originated by sigmund freud in which the therapist explores repressed or unconscious impulses, anxieties, and internal conflicts. Thought patients must be aware of their own mind. Free association, dream interpretation, and transference are techniques developed by freud to help clients achieve awareness of their unconscious. Free association: a method of investigating the unconscious in which the client expresses a spontaneous outpouring of ideas without any censorship.
