Retrieval- process where we get info out of brain for later use. Formation of memory occurs in three stage process. First encode info as fleeting sensory experience. Literal copies of sensory info are held for brief periods of time. Fraction of second to 3 seconds in length. Memory is encoded in our memory system through rehearsal- encoded into short term memory. Relatively short, we rehearse information, repeat info in mind over and over. Hold a limited # of items (7 bits of info) and in addition to having limited capacity it has limited duration.
