Document Summary

Social psychology- interest in when, why and how people think, feel, and behave in unexpected ways. Process by which we come to know and evaluate other individuals. Three steps to process of social perception. Form an impression of observed individual, how that person thinks, feels, personality styles, motives the person. Fritz heider: attribution to the person or the situation. Starting point was interest in how people come to understand the causes of other"s behaviors. People are intuitive scientists, in the way they observe and deduce why people do what they do. When we try to make an attribution to the cause of the behavior there are 2 possible causes. We either explain the cause of the behavior in regards to the person or the situation (characteristic of the individual or the characteristic of the social situation) When we make attributions to the cause of someone else"s behavior we do so on the basis of three types of information.
