Document Summary
Secure attachment does depend on the type of care and parenting. Identified 4 features of mothers that were associated with secure attachment - Responsive to baby"s sates, moods, did not try to overly control, accepting of baby, overcame frustrations well, were alert to baby"s signal, responded promptly, were psychologically and physically available. Insecure/avoidant - intrusive, rejecting, babies would ignore if attachment figure also ignores child. Ambivalent - inconsistent, sometimes responsive and sometimes not at all, or ignoring child; child is preoccupied with parents" availability. Disorganized - abuse, and neglectful parents; disoriented when caregiver approaches. Internal working models person"s mental representation of themselves as a child, and parents" way of interacting with them. Parents recreate relationships they had with their parents with their children. To measure internal working models - adult attachment interview is used. Researchers used this - how parents recollect their childhood is related to how their child is attached to them.
