Parents who socialize racial and ethnic identity have children who are more positive and resilient against discrimination. Those who have more friends outside their ethnic group develop more mature identities. Once we have a sense of self, we are able to use it to develop other domains. Occupational, academic, religious, gender, sexual, racial or ethnic, civic. Emotion recognition is not the same as understanding others" mental states. Infants notice positive emotions before negative emotions - can be adaptiive. Emotional script - enables one to predict and think about how another might react eomtionally. Social scripts, enables young children to predict about others beahviors. Ex, fearful when going too high on swings, happy when getting a snack, when i get home from daycare, I"m going to go check on my stuffed animals, etc. Understanding other people"s mental states and affect their behavior, taking another person"s perspective.
