Giant african snail introduced as a food source for domestic ducks. Unintended species can be stocked due to stock contamination or misidentification. Bait is collected or bought and brought to different bodies of water. Many are not aware of ecological risk or regulations. Transient recreational boating is recognized as a primary mechanism for dispersal of freshwater species in inland waters. Adult mussels can be encrusted on hulls or entangled in engine propellers. Larvae in locations where water accumulates such as live wells, bilges, and bait buckets. Dispersal rate and area of colonization can be determined using travel distance. Lakes can form discrete nodes in the landscape connected by human dispersal methods. Spiny waterflea was introduced to lake ontario in 1982 and has since dispersed to other great lakes.
