Baron von steuben created the war drill manual that is still used today. 1776 there was 20k people in nyc. Joseph plum martin"s, 15 yr old, primary sources are used for the war. Hundreds of british ships began to head to the colonies to send in more troops. Many people saw declaration of independence as a way to say that they were all. All men were created equal was interpreted in different ways. The british were fighting for the king, colonists fought for their lives. Sept 17, 1776 nyc was under sieged: in 1 hr, 4k british troops stormed the city and washington"s troops retreated, by sept 20, the british burned down a quarter of nyc. More than 3k colonists were placed in prison ships in nyc harbor. Prisoners would die in the ships: 9 in 10. More colonists died on prison ships than in the battles (3 times more, total 12k)
