Prejudice: an unjustifiable, often unconscious, attitude toward a group and its members, a type of schema. Research where people were shown faces with bad or good implications, response time was faster with positive implicit associations with o(cid:374)e"s o(cid:449)(cid:374) ra(cid:272)e. Social roots of prejudice: social inequalities increase prejudice. The group in power develops attitude to justify why they are in power (cid:862)they"re (cid:449)eak, they"re lazy, they"re (cid:448)iole(cid:374)t(cid:863) This perpetuates the inequality: social divisions increase prejudice. In-group is the people who are like us: ex: gender, race, geographical association. Out-group is the people who are not. We are very passionately dedicated to our in-group: fear of being pushed out of the in-group is incredibly powerful, emotional scapegoating. Focusing prejudice on a particular group based on anger at a certain situation, typically not someone at fault at all. Ex: japanese internment camps after pearl harbor.
