Photoreceptors that are cones are differently sensitive to different wavelengths of light. If someone is missing one of those cone types, they aren"t able to differentiate between different hues of color, but that doesn"t mean they are colorblind. If someone has damage to their ventral stream, the world is in different shades of black, white, and gray. Why do they trick us: no one can see reality as it is, false, our photoreceptors are liars, our ganglion cells are liars, my brain"s fine; they don"t trick me. Perceptual constancy: we perceive things to be the same thing, despite changes to their shape, brightness, size, hue .
