Document Summary
Weather is not the same as climate. Weather represents the conditions in an area over a shorter, generally current, time period. Climate represents the conditions in an area over a longer period of time. These reports are based on average weather conditions. Humans mainly affect greenhouse gas intensity, leading to a change in climate. Co 2 , n 2 o, and ch 4 have all shown dramatic increases over the last 30+ years. Cfc"s (chlorofluorocarbons: chemicals containing carbon, fluorine, and chlorine) have increased as well, but show a tapering off around the early 1990s (a few years after the montreal protocol, which outlawed cfc"s internationally, was put into action). Much of the change experienced globally is due to the greenhouse. The top 10 warmest years have all occurred in the last 10 years. Surface temperatures have been dramatically increasing globally, and record-breaking temperatures have been observed recently in separate places in california alone.
