Psychiatry {psych(o)} + {iatr(o)} = doctor + {ia} Psychosomatic {somat}{soma}{some} = body; means dealing with the body and mind. It comes from the same source as {gen} It is apparently the tutelary (guardian) deity or spirit of an individual or place. In roman households, it is particularly associated with the patriarch of a family: until a few centuries ago, this word was used to indicate the set of attributes that make up a particular person"s identity.
