Academics and collecting stories: listening to people who told stories and writing them down, neil gaiman(b. 1960) Short narrative, not novelistic in length, often terse, unelaborated style. Consider novel to be anything that written but novel is very specific form: starts in 17th century, realistic, long, not what fairytales are. Fairy tale of the willful child: once upon a time there was a child who was willful and did not do what his mother wanted.
