Color vision: don"t see red, see in ultraviolet. Larval eye spots, 3-6 on side of the head. Measure light and dark to know when it is day/night to set circadian rhythms. Involves antennae in all forms, different forms for different functions. Males use large antennae to detect the opposite sex. Receptors on tarsi (tips of legs), mouthparts, and antennae. Many moths have an ear drum at the base of their abdomen to detect bat sonar. Tiger moths can emit clicks to confuse the sonar of the bats. Cicadas have abdominal tympana to hear with, and a drum head to vibrate to make sound to attract mates. Male mosquitos listen for the wing beat frequency of the females. Receptors consist of hair and the nerve attached to it.
