Estimated chance of fingerprints randomly matching was 1 n 64 billion. 1897: sir edward richard henry purposed the system adopted by scotland and. 1901: adopted as official identification by civil service in nyc. 1918: dr. edmond locard claimed 12 matching points between two fingerprints = positive identification. This was found to be not necessarily true by the courts later on. 2002: fingerprint testimony (temporarily) ruled inadmissible according to daubert criteria.
