Document Summary

Fairy tales usually named after female lead, tales with male leads are forgotten. Male characters in tales with female leads are uninteresting and interchangeable. A strong father figure is an evil one. Fairy tales all about appearance, princesses need only be beautiful. Tales left out many descriptions because beauty is meant to be inner beauty. Passive women are good characters and get married. Not being passive, maturation, waiting for the right time. Domestic skills are all-important, industrious women marry princes. Genre of fairy tales based around impressing prince with domestic chores. Frau holle: a widow had two beautiful daughters, one was beautiful and industrious, the other is ugly and lazy. Princesses are good at suffering in silence, and are rewarded for it. Goosegirl: there is no happy ending unless you suffer and wait or there is no happy ending unless you speak up; can be interpreted either way.
