One of your friends is about to adopt an infant. That friend asks you, "what was the most surprising thing that you learned about kids in their first couple years of life?" Explain to your friend what has surprised you most about development from birth to two. Scoring: state what you found most surprising from birth to 2 (2 points), explain why this was surprising (4 points) and what evidence would be helpful to this parent (4 points). The most interesting thing i learned in my child development course about kids in the first couple years of life is that infants do not develop a sense of awareness until nine months of age. Until they develop sense of self-awareness, much of how they make sense of the world is determined by that of their caregiver. In class, it was mentioned that self-awareness can also be effective in developing empathy.
