Document Summary

Stimuli: hormones, endocrine tissue/glands, cardiovascular system/blood, receptors, works in conjunction w/ nervous system. Hormone signal molecule released by endocrine tissues/glands into the blood. 90: water soluble (hydrophilic) hormone dissolves in a watery environment, like blood. Carrier protein: amine hormone thyroid hormone. Regulation of hormone keep relatively stable levels of hormone. Regulated through negative feedback: ex: sex steroid estrogen toddler vs. post-puberty. Hypothalamic anterior pituitary gland relationship: hypothalamus produces hormones called releasing hormones all by itself. It goes into the blood stream which then goes and stimulates the anterior pituitary: anterior pituitary in response to releasing hormone it will produce tropic hormones. It will travel a very long distance in the blood stream, where it will then stimulate an endocrine gland. That gland will produce and secrete its own hormone, which will cause the biological affect: ex: if the gland was the ovary, the hormone it would produce and secrete would be estrogen.
