Document Summary

Bone type of connective tissue that is dense and strong: protection protect internal organs, body shape and movement muscle anchored to bones, storage site from ca2+ (calcium ion) and po4. Shape of bone: flat bones found in the bones of the skull, pelvis. Long bones long in length, skinny width. They come in all types of unusual shapes. Main thing to (cid:272)o(cid:374)sider a(cid:271)out the(cid:373) is that they do(cid:374)"t ha(cid:448)e the flat or lo(cid:374)g look to the(cid:373). Cross section through a long bone: compact bone very stro(cid:374)g. ca(cid:374)"t ha(cid:448)e the (cid:449)hole (cid:271)o(cid:374)e (cid:271)e (cid:373)ade fro(cid:373) this (cid:271)e(cid:272)ause the (cid:271)o(cid:374)e would be very heavy. We evolved so that the bone is strong, yet light so that we can move around: spongey/trabecular bone has a lot of holes in it. Not as strong as compact bone, but it is light: bone marrow site in which we synthesize blood cells. As you get older you lose this and begins to fill up (cid:449)ith fat.
