Collapse of bronchioles during expiration results in only partial expiration. Elastin in the lung parenchyma: collagen content ( strength , surface tension within alveoli i bronchioles. " h -- bonding tends to d compliance and collapse the alveoli and bronchioles. As alveolus becomes smaller , collapsing pressure due to surface tension becomes larger.
