Exercise - influences levels of compounds to hypothalamus. Ghrelin causes feelings of hunger, leptin causes feelings of satiety (says fat stores are full) Eating cues (aka all you can eat) Temperature (eat more when it is colder) Looking at a clock can signal it"s time to eat. Watching your friend can make you hungry. Hot weather can create a craving for ice cream. Sleep deprivation = ghrelin release -> food intake. Low appetite in morning; increased in evening. Evolutionary design: eat more in evening since long hours of sleep ahead. You may end up eating a lot the next day. You may have a late night craving while studying. Obesity causes - why energy balance becomes skewed.
