Substanive deiniion of democracy: would say there"s a whole lot of things that go into democracy such as religious freedoms, freedoms of the press, a set of beliefs; tend to be very broad and diicult to measure or conceptualize. Minimalist deiniion of democracy: focus on the most important things; compeiive elecions > relaively free and fair, compeiion and rotaion in power. Democraic survival: the higher the level of economic development; the more likely democracy is to sick. Democracies rarely ight one another (empirical phenomenon): democraic peace theory. Democraic + autocraic combinaion is deinitely conlict prone. Democraic countries are more oten to win any wars: more likely to choose peaceful setlements, selecing wars they think they can win, in general how lower levels of fataliies, shorter wars; emerge victorious as quickly as possible. Ad hoc characterisic: explaining excepions by saying the empirical culture isn"t actually developed. When democracies ight they are going to mobilize quickly, and achieve their goals.
