Document Summary
Why perception is difficult but seems easy. Billions of neurons go toward interpreting what you"re seeing (vision) Seems easy, but recognizing objects takes a lot of power. Most perception work is done by the visual cortex in the occipital lobe. Visual system is the largest and most developed sensory system in humans. Vision challenge: each eye receives a 2 dimensional image of a 3 dimensional world from a specific viewpoint, and in most cases the light that reaches the eyes was not actually generated by the objects we"re looking at. Light is generated from the sun or light bulbs (artificial light) Vision challenge #2: factoring out the nature of the lighting source and figuring out the nature of the objects that are reflecting the light from this source. Your visual system can figure out when the light is dim and it takes into consideration the light factors when determining color.
