Masculinity tied to the fear and hopes of modern society (communism, socialism, and the functioning of normative society) Human body took on a symbolic meaning and became a huge part of the definition of masculinity. Once the human body took apon a symbolic form, its structure and beauty became extremely important. Women symbols: motherly qualities of the nation, and pointed to its traditions and history.
