In the us antro is traditionally divided into four sub-divisions known as elds : physical/ biological antro--- the human genome project and dna studies. Primatology: archaeology study of the archaic examine past human societies. Middens trash heaps: linguistic antro tends to focus on the universal aspects of human language and communication, culture antro. Focus on human cultures/societies as they exist in the world today. Ethnocentrism - the view / belief that your own culture/ society is superior to any other. Cultural relativism - a tool / perspective used. A method of suspending one"s own biases when looking at another culture. Incommensurability - there may be some value, belief or practice found in one culture that is very dif cult for people in another culture to understand or comprehend. Culture - culture is a system of meaning embedded in symbols. Instead it is learned. ( not born with language, but the ability to learn language)
