Culture doesn"t make you unique because it is something that is shared. Your belief of something isn"t consider culture until it is shared. This course tells the story of how anthropologists study various cultural phenomena and processes (ex. Time and space, cultural reproduction, gender, family, consumerism: make the unfamiliar familiar, and make the familiar unfamiliar. Heated horn placed on top of people"s skin and the healer is sucking blood out of the patient. Unfamiliar to us but we try to make it familiar. Dentist is working on a patient"s teeth. Familiar to us but not to other culture so we need to step out of our shoes and make the familiar unfamiliar. Course logistics: lectures: tuesday and thursday.
