Concerned with future of group, the lineage or family, continues forever if powerful enough and controls resources, ppl work hard enough to maintain. Each lineage associated with a particular hamlet, village made up of hamlets, little areas of the village, each hamlet is exogamous. Sex versus gender, gender is cultural, sex is biological. Gender roles father takes care, males seen as natural care-takers. Father"s role economic support, social beauty, take care of kids. Youth and sexuality very loose; no double standard. But brothers and sisters, fathers never discuss sex. Marriage = eat in public together cooked yams, sexuality, eating. Women test men to see character, if he will be important contributor. Women wear longer skirts; both take off red shell necklaces. Serious work of adults beings to make lineage strong. Yam wealth fleeting, rots, what you get from wealth, can turn wealth into prestige and respect.
