Anthro 2a lec 4. 2 hunting and gathering to agriculture. Walk 2 to 12 miles a day. Brings back an average of 15 to 33 pounds of nuts, berries, fruits, leafy greens, roots. Hunters give away food, deny credit for hunt. Women contribute the basic food for survival. Men spend tie with bride"s family = recognize economic loss. Share with each other = survival of group. Do not stress competitive acquisition of wealth nor personal retention of wealth (changes after incorporation into states) Giving and sharing not for pure economics. But gifts of exchange items do not need to be equivalent value. 20 adults average 2. 4 days per week in hunting and gathering. Affluence in our terms = free time and sufficient food. N/um = energy in pit of stomach, harnessed by medicine men. San = 90 or so wild plants, some protein. Farmers = one or two high carbohydrate plants: corn, rice, or wheat.
