Document Summary

Reading guide for lesson 23 (pages 293 294, 296 304) Summarize in your own words how the law of segregation and the law of independent assortment relate to meiosis. Refer back to figures 14. 8 and 13. 8 for help if you need it. The law of segregation says that two alleles for a gene separate. The law of independent assortment says that alleles can be divided randomly. Says that genes are on specific spots on chromosomes. Skip concept 15. 1 and go to page 296 (concept 15. 2). Females have xx genotype and men have an xy genotype. Short segments on either ends of the y chromosomes. Sperm can have either x or y chromosomes. The sry gene is the sex determining region of the y chromosome. A sex-linked gene is a gene located on either sex chromosome. Y-linked genes are located on the y chromosome. X-linked genes are located on the x chromosome.
