Lecture 15 - 07/28 (complex traits, overflow + Multifactorial: trait is the result of different combos of multiple genes & environmental factors. Quantitative: phenotypes range over the quantity of a characteristic rather than falling into discrete types. Threshold traits are phenotypes that you either have it or you don"t (like you have the disease or you don"t) Identical (monozygotic) twins is where 1 zygote splits into 2 genetically identical zygotes. Fraternal (dizygotic) twins is when the women releases 2 eggs and both the eggs get fertilized by different sperms. Twin logic i: if there is variation in a trait between 2 identical twins, it must be caused by environmental factors, not genetic factors. Twin logic ii: fingerprints in twins differ and the variation is due to variation in environment. Twin logic iii: twins are usually raised in the same environment.
