Class action women on behalf of 1. 5 million women who had worked for or had been working for walmart. What are the actual practices that happen in the workplace & in people"s daily life. Having laws on the books doesn"t necessarily to justice in practice. In 2001 betty dukes & some other woman representatives (class action lawsuit) brought similar types of complaints to court. Substantive issue: did walmart violate title vii: One example: stephanie, an employee at walmart, had been working there for 9 or 10 years in # of different stores. Betty dukes noticed glass ceilings for women in management. Complained to supervisor about women getting paid less. For her female management position, men were getting paid ,000 more a year. Manager: well, he has a wife & kids to support. Also argued that the other women who were not getting paid as much deserved to get paid equally.
