Takes one month for moon to rotate around the earth: be able to explain/draw diagrams to explain why there are two tidal bulges aligned with the moon (or sun) on both sides of the earth. Combination of gravitational attraction of sun and moon. Orbit of moon around earth and earth+moon around the sun. Sun is huge but much further away so our tides are most influenced by the moon with only secondary influence by sun: be able to explain/draw diagrams to show why we see daily high and low tides. Earth rotates but the tidal bulges don"t. This is why high tide gets a bit later each day. Moon dn orbit above earth"s equator it varies from 28. 5 n to 28. 5 several times over 1 year.
