Meritocracy: basically american dream schools are organized to promote the success of some students and not others. By challenging what schools assume good students look like, talk like, act like, and know, we better the chances of all students succeeding social reproduction(what schools do now) and social transformation(what schools should be doing) H. g. wells: writer and journalist, author of country of the blind . Nunez"s journey: proud > disoriented > persuasion > rebellion and aggression > cultural rejection > return > submission > citizenship(normally associated with cultural suicide- giving up something related to mother culture) Nunez is disabled in certain settings(we create the disability when a quality does not match setting) Hearing shouldn"t be a difference that makes a difference. In martha"s vineyard, everyone could do sign language so deaf people were fully integrated into everyday life. Ability or disability does not reside in the individual(deficit thinking: believing it resides in child)
