Family- it"s the first people they come in contact with. Family has all this stuff, so family is first major socializing agent. Subcultures/networks, social class, kinship, ethnic group, interests, primary focus, family status. *when you do family interview project- don"t say low class low class=/= low-income/low-ses. Lots of things come with income- cultural capital, etc. Kinship- people not actually married into the family, you call as family. Bias- classist assumptions, bias is everywhere, bias hurts everyone, areas of privilege. When kids are affected by bias or show bias, it"s a waste of energy when they can be growing or developing or becoming better people. Based on areas of privilege- income, skin color, cultural income, cultural capital. Cultural capital- ability to navigate certain situations based on lived experience. Those who have experience racism don"t have to read about it to understand it. Stereotypes, discrimination, racist attitudes, affects socialization, equity issues, social justice. Some people believe their actions reflect their race.
