Republican parties won a lot with majority vote. Wwi soldiers came back and were promised that government would give them pension but it wasn"t appropriated. By 1932 so many veterans were out of work and were middle aged and couldn"t support families. Soldiers set up a shanty town in front of the capital building and marched for days. Hoover orders the army to destroy the camp. The depression was a betrayal of the veterans who laid down their lives for the country. Weekly broadcasts to people to tell them how government would solve their problems. Trying to be an educator, not using slogans. Families gathered every week to listen to him.
