Treats as a machine, as opposed to a human. Starting around 1960s-present day, many start to push back against what they perceive is the ideological congemnity of western medicine. Look to practices considered more holistic i. e. chinese medicine. Chinese look to west to improve their own practices. Western look to chinese to heal the alienation between the practitioner and the patient. Biomedical physicians were able to describe diseases but unable to cure: changes in 1940s (drug revolution): discovery of antibiotics, drugs, etc. Ability to cure disease (1940s on: antibiotics, vaccines, psychotropic drugs. Penicillin was discovered by accident by alexander fleming. Noticed a mold had grown: wherever the mold was, the bacteria was killed. Helps heal so many illnesses that killed people at the times.
