West (norm) vs. east (exotic: exotic = strange in compelling way associated with conquest and taking, problematic issue: emphasis of deserts and camels in east. Presents information as monolithic (all studies are the same: presents orientalism as one the same, oriental perspective makes everything look the same. Field of oriental studies is more varied than said"s argument: picks apart the way the west views cultural differences.
