European perspectives on africans (form of racecraft -> makes slavery seem legit) Time that africans spend on ship crossing the atlantic. Researchers go into the societies to learn about them. Europeans on africa sex, women, and the groundwork of enslavement. John lok visited what europeans called guinea. Process of racecraft through women"s bodies + sexual behavior. Ethnography = study cultures to understand them -> meant to be descriptive. Voyeurism = practice of gaining sexual pleasure from watching others. Put them together -> throughout history europeans described africans in a way that is meant to objectify their culture (try to be scientific) but appears to be more erotic. National geographic used to be focused on naked women from other cultures (1900"s) Appears to be scientific -> focus on otherness. Plays into exoticism -> pleasure for europeans. History of otherness + creating race through women"s bodies. Contract no matrimonie, neither have respect to chastite .
