PHILOS 4 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Deontological Ethics, Consequentialism
Document Summary
Rule consequentialist is very similar to deontological arguments. Not saying anything is going to happen if you do it. Don"t care what is trying to happen; just try to illustrate what would. What if everyone did it?) happen if everyone behaved the same way. Ultimately, it"s a lot closer to deontology. Wrong because of x or y, therefore don"t do it. Wrong because of x or y, therefore if the consequence is bad, don"t (cid:2) (cid:2) (cid:2) (cid:2) (cid:2) (cid:2) (cid:2) (cid:2) (cid:2) do it. If people behave this way in general, it would be a disaster. Ex) you have a house and you are hiding someone who is on a hit list, and the hit man comes to your door. You can essentially be vague in your answers, but you cannot lie. When you lie, you damage this way of placing rights in the world. Declarations are sacred; even in a life/death situation.
