The sort of challenges that we face are different from other countries. We are bombarded by the media about other atrocities happening in the world. As we look at those things there is a blur between that horror and science fiction movies we may be watching. We do not fully appreciate the horrible things human beings are doing to one another. The author provides enough details for us to see the horror that the chinese in nanking face. Men, especially women, in a way that increases our likelihood of remembering things and makes it more real than a television report on what is happening in syria. It is very interesting that while everyone is familiar with the numbers of horrors associated with wwi, the concentration camp, there is little attention paid to the horrors committed in asia by the japanese troops.
