Notes: behavioral and social cognitive theories, skinner"s operant conditioning: b. f. skinner the consequences of a behavior produce changes in the probability of the behavior"s occurrence. A behavior followed by a rewarding stimulus is more likely to recur, whereas a behavior followed by a punishing stimulus is less likely to occur. Key aspect is behavior, not thoughts & feelings: bandura"s cognitive theory: behavior, environment and cognition are key factors in development. Cognitive processes have important links with the environment and behavior. Observational learning is learning that occurs through observing what others do, like a child observing his father yelling in anger and treating others with hostility, the child later displays the same tendencies. Learning through observation is an important part of lifespan development. The cognitive part of this view is that people cognitively represent the behavior of others and then sometimes adopt this behavior themselves.
