Circumcision is painful, drift into deep sleep as coping mechanism. Older adults could detect touch much less in the lower extremities (ankles, knees, and so on) than in the upper extremities (wrists, shoulders, and so on). For most older adults, though, a decline in touch sensitivity is not problematic. Estimated 60-75% of older adults report at least some persistent pain. Most frequent pain complaints are back pain (40%), peripheral neurpathic pain, and chronic joint pain. Presence of pain increases with age in older adults, women more likely to report pain than men. Older adults less sensitive to pain than younger adults. Once older adults experience pain they may be less tolerant of it than are younger adults: smell, newborns can differentiate odors. Expressions on faces seem to indicate they like the way vanilla and strawberry smell but don"t like how rotten and eggs and fish smell. However, when even relatively healthy older adults take medications, their taste sensitivity declines.
